Spend the Summer at the Manship School
Housed at LSU’s Manship School of Mass Communication, the Louisiana Scholastic Press Association (LSPA) Summer Institute prepares high school sophomores, juniors, seniors and incoming LSU students to tell the world’s stories through media.
Our mission is to equip students with advanced skills in journalism, digital media, broadcast reporting, public relations, advertising and more.

When and where will the 2024 LSPA Summer Institute take place?
- The 2024 program will run from July 9-12, 2024 from 9:30 a.m. - 3 p.m. each day.
- The program will take place at the LSU Journalism Building at the Manship School of Mass Communication on the campus of Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
What will I be doing?
- Learn the fundamentals of writing, broadcast and digital journalism, graphic design, video production, social media and more.
- Discover new techniques to improve your digital storytelling skills.
Who can attend?
- High school sophomores, juniors, seniors and incoming college freshmen interested in mass communication, journalism and/or students involved in their student newspaper, yearbook, broadcast or digital news programs
- Enrollment is limited to 25 students on a first-come, first-served basis.
What is the cost?
- The cost is $200 per student, which covers meals and cost for materials and activities.
- Participants are responsible for travel and related expenses to and from the LSU campus.
