Global Engagement Spotlight: Suman Gunin
June 10, 2024
Throughout the year, the Office of Global Engagement highlights students from our incredible global community. Today we're highlighting Suman Gunin, an LSU PhD student with a passion for neuroscience, education, and global impact.
Originally from West Bengal, India, Suman chose LSU because his research interests aligned with the work of Haam Lab, led by Dr. Juhee Haam of the LSU Department of Biological Sciences. Through neuroscience, Suman hopes to impact global education — by leveraging neuroscience tools to improve students' learning outcomes. "Being a first-generation student," Suman says, "I truly understand the quantum leap that education can make in an individual’s life. I want to bring that same change in the lives of children around the world who are faced with challenging circumstances."
Outside of the lab, Suman also expands his global impact by building cross-cultural connections. Whether through on-campus events at the Global Community Center or everyday interactions with other students, Suman has enjoyed the opportunity to build friendships with students from all over the world. These friendships have deepened his understanding of humanity and enriched his LSU experience. Before he arrived on campus, Suman says, "I could hardly conceive the idea that I would have American besties who would invite me for Christmas and make me feel at home on a continent that is literally on the other side of the globe."
Thank you, Suman, for your dedication to campus community-building and global impact!
