Driving to LSU

Please use the LSU Interactive Map for navigation assistance. Students are permitted to drive themselves to LSU. A parking permit is required for any vehicle parked on campus. Permits are not required for pick up or drop off.

Transportation

You are responsible for arranging transportation to and from camp for your student. If students drive to LSU, they will need parent/guardian authorization.

Parking on Campus

You must display a properly purchased dash tag to park a vehicle on campus. LSU Parking Rules and Regulations state that failing to display a permit will result in receiving an unregistered ticket. The University may boot, tow, and impound a vehicle that accumulates three (3) or more unregistered tickets. Likewise, students who receive three (3) or more unregistered tickets may face a prohibition from parking on campus and operating a vehicle until they settle all tow charges, storage fees, traffic/parking fines, and permit fees. 

Attendance

Given the brief and intensive nature of our programs, punctuality and regular daily attendance are essential. If your student arrives late, is absent, or needs to leave early, we will contact you.

Tardiness and Absenteeism

Students who are sick or running late for a course, workshop, or activity must notify a staff member, either their assigned instructor or the program manager. We will contact you if a student is repeatedly tardy or absent. Repeated tardiness or absenteeism may lead to program dismissal.

Cell Phones

During class and group activities, students should silence their cell phones to encourage positive interactions with peers. While free, students are welcome to use their cell phones to call family and friends, but it is recommended to keep those conversations to designated free time periods.

Wi-Fi and Computer Access

Participation does not require electronic devices. Residential students will receive a Wi-Fi guest account for campus use, which is subject to LSU’s Policy Statement-107 on internet access.

Student Code of Conduct

Any student endangering the health or safety of themselves, fellow participants, staff, or faculty will be promptly dismissed from the program. Students are prohibited from:

• Violating LSU Student Code of Conduct, Section 10.2 (Behavior)
• Violating the Tobacco-Free Campus policy
• Failing to adhere to Computer Users’ Responsibilities
• Engaging in illegal or abusive use of alcohol or other drugs
• Breaking any rule or regulation of Summer Academy and/or LSU
• Violating any federal, state, or local law.

Dietary Concerns

The LSU Dining team is well-trained on Food Allergies, following the guidelines set by FARE (Food Allergy Research and Education group). We take dietary restrictions seriously and make every effort to accommodate them based on the information provided in your Medical Information Form. If you need to update or edit any of the information on the forms, please inform a member of our staff during the Opening Session or directly through email. Your health and well-being are of utmost importance to us, and we want to ensure a safe and enjoyable dining experience for all participants.

Prescription Medications

Please provide a list of all medications, both over-the-counter and prescribed, on the Medical Information Form. Include all necessary information and ensure you send sufficient quantities of each medication, including over-the-counter pain relievers or antihistamines. Please note that our staff will not provide medical advice or dispense medications for any reason. We recommend discussing with your student’s pediatrician to determine the most suitable formulations that align with our camp schedule.

Keep prescription medications in their original containers, which should bear the following details:

• Date prescribed.
• Prescription number.
• Precautions or boxed warnings that require medical attention.
• Licensed physician’s instructions indicating frequency and dosage.

Injury and Illness

The safety and health of your student is our top priority. In the event of urgent medical care needs, we will initially notify you or your alternate emergency contact by phone and arrange for transport to the nearest urgent care facility. To facilitate this process, we will request you to complete a clinic consent and information form during the registration.

In case of an immediate medical emergency, we will call 911. Regardless of the situation, we will contact you or your designated emergency contact if any of the following occur:

• A fever of 102 degrees Fahrenheit or higher.
• A persistent complaint that requires prompt medical attention.
• A change in the level of consciousness, such as fainting or a seizure.

Curfew

The residence hall features a secured entrance and enforces an 11:00 p.m. curfew. To ensure the students’ well-being, both residence assistants and our camp counseling staff actively monitor the students.

Campus Security

The LSU Police Department is operational 24/7, providing an array of resources for crime deterrence and response, including uniform patrol, motorcycle and bicycle patrols, K-9 officers, investigators, and other support services.

For added safety, students and families can download the LSU Shield mobile app, the official safety app of LSU, which offers easy access to campus safety resources.

Inclement Weather 

We do not cancel activities due to common weather conditions such as rain, heat, or heavy wind. However, unpredictable weather conditions may occasionally necessitate schedule modifications, which will be assessed on a case-by-case basis. In such instances, we reserve the right to adjust scheduled activities or locations and provide suitable alternatives.

Our program staff will closely monitor weather reports and adjust the planned itinerary to ensure the best possible experience for students. We rely on LSU’s Office of Emergency Preparedness for guidance and decisions in such situations.

Campus Dormitories

Residential hall availability may vary each year, but our campus dormitories typically offer two-student rooms with suite-style bathrooms. You can explore the housing complexes where our students have stayed in previous years through this  virtual tour, for a glimpse of the comfortable and convenient accommodations LSU provides.

Conduct & Living on Campus

This might be your first time living with a roommate or in a community setting. Our aim is to foster a positive environment where you can thrive. To achieve this, we’ve set community standards and accountability measures in place to guarantee a comfortable, safe, and enjoyable housing experience for all.

Residential Assistants & Directors

LSU live-in community staff members in the residence hall are available 24/7 and serve as a valuable resource, particularly for those who are new to the LSU Community.

Roommates

Typically, there are two students per room, though some may be placed in single rooms based on enrollment. Students are paired according to age and gender. If you have specific housing preferences or requirements, please don’t hesitate to contact us. We take pride in providing a safe and inclusive community for all our students. Your comfort and well-being are important to us.

Weekdays

The Summer Academy staff organizes a range of mandatory and optional activities to foster a supportive and inclusive student community within the program, and to introduce students to LSU’s offerings. Approximately two weeks before the start of camp, we will email you a schedule of activities

Weekends

On the first weekend of camp, students will travel as a group. All students must wear the LSU Branded t-shirt for all off-campus field trips.

Down Time

After dinner, we typically arrange extracurricular activities. However, students have the option to retreat to their dorm room if they prefer.

During non-scheduled events, students may leave campus with written permission from a parent or guardian, which should include the following details:

• A statement describing the special circumstance.
• The date and time the student will be away.
• Name and contact information of the person picking up the student.
• On weekdays, students under age 18 may only leave their dormitory or the campus if accompanied by a staff member.

Overnight Absence from Campus

To ensure full participation, we encourage students to limit overnight absences. If an absence during a planned activity is authorized, the student must return before the following day’s curfew.

Family Visits

To foster group cohesion during camp, we encourage students to actively participate in all scheduled weekday activities. Families are welcome to visit LSU and stay nearby at the LSU Cook Hotel.

While parents may take their student out to dinner, we kindly request that students return to their dorm room by the 11:00 p.m. curfew, unless there is a compelling reason for a later return. 

Residential Departure

Please ensure that the check-out and key return process takes place by noon on the last Saturday of the camp. Once all residents have removed their personal belongings, the LSU Summer Academy program staff will inspect each dorm room
