Global Engagement Spotlight: Elsie Huffman
May 14, 2024
It’s time for another student spotlight from LSU’s global community! This month, we’re excited to highlight Elsie Huffman, a graduating senior from Minden, Louisiana. This semester, Elsie became the second LSU student to complete the challenging Peace Corps Prep certification.
Peace Corps Prep is an undergraduate certificate that develops the skills necessary for intercultural volunteering. To earn the certificate, students must demonstrate four core competencies: training in a specific work sector, language skills, intercultural competence, and professional and leadership development.
Throughout her time at LSU, as she earned her Bachelor’s degree in Political Science and a minor in Leadership and Human Resource Development, Elsie has excelled at these four competencies. She has polished her language skills in Spanish, participated in leadership and mentoring activities, and dedicated over 100 hours to hands-on volunteering with local organizations, including Tigers Against Sexual Assault, the Baton Rouge Youth Coalition, and the Board of Regents Power-Based Violence Panel. After graduation, Elsie plans to put these skills to work by joining the AmeriCorps program.
Thank you, Elsie, for your contributions to the Baton Rouge community and your commitment to developing intercultural connections!
